This post is all about how to fast and get desired results as fasting does not give you the guarantee of getting desired results except when done in the right way. For your fast to be effective, you need to:
HAVE A STRONG PURPOSE: One big mistake many christians make is that they do not attach any purpose to their fast or, they end up attaching too many purposes to their fast. When the likes of Daniel and Esther fasted, they never made the mistake of attaching too many purposes at a time hence they got the much needed result.
PRAY: Fasting without prayer is starvation or better still, an hunger strike. Telling yourself you’re fasting doesn’t really mean you are as fasting always goes with prayer.
BE BOLD: The scriptures said, ‘Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain favour and find grace to help in time of need'[Hebrews 4:16]. When fasting, boldness is very important. You don’t have to look sad, beggarly or depressed like those hypocrites who always disfigure their faces and put on a sad look in order to appear to everyone as one who is fasting.
BELIEVE: Without believing that God will answer you when you fast, He won’t answer you. Always expect something special from God when you fast.
ABSTAIN FROM SIN: The time for fasting isn’t the time for committing sin as sin is capable of spoiling your fast for you because after committing sin, it’s going to affect your faith as you won’t be sure if God will pardon it even when He has already pardoned it. Always avoid too much interaction with people when fasting.
LOVE OTHERS: The time for fasting, is the time for showing love and doing good as stated, ‘Is not this the fast that I have chosen? To loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? When thou seest the naked, that thou coverest him'[Isaiah 58:6-7].
BE FOCUS: This is all about being fully involved in the fasting exercise with all your heart. You shouldn’t think of food while fasting because you can never go hungry while fasting.
